Statement on Jocelyn Frazer

We recently learned that Jocelyn Frazer, Practice Advisor and Equity Ombudsman (on leave) of the Law Society of Alberta, has passed away.

Our current Director and Co-founder Agnes BieIecki, has made the following statement: “I knew Jocelyn personally and I will always be grateful for her commitment to representing Internationally Trained Lawyers (ITLs) in the legal community in Alberta. For many years she worked tirelessly in the legal community to raise awareness of the challenges which ITLs face in getting re-qualified to practice law in Alberta. She was a dedicated and passionate advocate of the ITLs community.

When Daniel Lo and I came up with the idea of creating Global Lawyers of Canada (GLC), we reached out first to Jocelyn and Cori Ghitter. Jocelyn and Cori were our first mentors and supported GLC greatly by opening many doors for us in the legal community. Since the beginning, Jocelyn and Cori were cheering GLC on in anything we did. In 2015, Jocelyn attended the GLC launch event, together with Cori, where they represented the Law Society of Alberta, showing their support for us. Jocelyn’s attendance just confirmed her undeniable dedication and commitment to working on behalf of disadvantaged groups in the legal community.

She had always time, patience and empathy for ITLs. She will be missed greatly.”
